Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve harbored a dream of having a charming farmer’s porch—a place where memories could be made, and lazy afternoons could be spent. Finally, the dream has materialized, and we opted for Azek composite decking and trim for the entire porch, ensuring a low-maintenance haven for years to come. The best part? No more worrying about paint!

Railing-Free Design

Choosing the right elements for the porch was a thoughtful process. Our porch sits at 44′ wide and 8′ deep. We deliberated on whether to add railings, ultimately deciding on a railing-free design for a more open and inviting atmosphere. The porch now stands as a seamless extension of our home, ready to be styled with the changing seasons. We decided to wrap all of the posts in Azek composite as well as the skirting on the porch. This paired perfectly with our decking choice – TimberTech in color Slate Gray with Cathedral Grain. The ceiling is also Azek composite, running the short way to avoid having seems.And last but not least is all tied together by our choice of siding – Mastic Cedar Shake Shingles in white!

Holiday Porch Decorations

As we look ahead, our plans include enhancing the porch’s surroundings. In the upcoming spring, a bluestone walkway and carefully chosen plantings will further elevate the charm of our outdoor space. The porch swing, already proving to be a cozy corner, and beckons us to unwind and enjoy evenings when the weather warms up.

Decorating the porch for the holidays was a delight, with many of the festive items sourced from Amazon, offering both convenience and style. From vibrant spring blooms to the warmth of autumn hues, our porch is set to be a canvas for every season’s unique charm.

The Finishes

To complement the overall aesthetic, we went with custom shutters made out of Azek. The shutter color we chose is Sherwin Williams Ancient Marble, adding a touch of timeless elegance to the exterior. Our front door added the perfect deep contrast to the space – Therma Tru Classic Craft, Artissa Collection, Mahogany Grain, in color Acorn. The neutral tones provide a versatile backdrop for seasonal decor and ensure the porch remains a classic feature of our home.

In creating our dream farmer’s porch, we’ve not only added a picturesque extension to our home but also a space that embodies comfort, style, and the promise of countless cherished moments. As we eagerly anticipate the seasons to come, our porch stands ready to be a backdrop to the stories we’ll create and the memories we’ll cherish for years to come.
