The sun is shining, the patio is refreshed, and your out-of-office is on—your space is perfectly primed for outdoor entertaining. As we drift into the season of al fresco dining, it’s worth making the most of every moment we can spend outside. Summer often goes by so quickly, and that’s why I so deeply love the art of outdoor entertaining! It’s the best way of celebrating all that summer brings and a wonderful way of bringing together your favorite people.

That being said, I know hosting can be a little stressful. Trying to visualize everything you need, let alone put together a tablescape outside, takes effort. I’m fully here to help on this front! As a long-time fan of outdoor entertaining, I wanted to put together a guide for you so you can enjoy eating meals outside and spending time with the people you care about most. Ahead, you’ll find general advice for running outdoor gatherings smoothly, as well as my favorite furniture and hosting staples for creating a lovely atmosphere.

Whether you’re hosting a graduation party, entertaining new friends, hosting a large summer bash, or an intimate dinner, these tips will best support you as you plan and on the day!

Treat your outdoor events like indoor ones.

When you entertain outside, it’s always a nice idea to give it the same attention and care as your indoor gatherings. Take time to clean your deck, patio, porch, or whichever area you’re hosting. And give yourself ample time to decorate and design a layout that works for you. If it’s just a morning latte with your best friend, create a cozy and comfortable set-up with cushioned seats, an accessible table, shade if necessary, nibbles, and mugs that are easy to use outside. For bigger events, think about a well-designed tablescape, activities to do, and where everything will go… which leads me to the next point.

Create zones for guests.

Designating zones in your outdoor spaces reflects a layout similar to your interiors, and gives guests options. Some may want to just relax with a drink in hand. Have comfortable chairs or loungers available for them or a quiet area on your patio. Have an area for kids’ food and games if little ones or teens will be joining. Make the games/sports area clear for kids and adults interested in running around. It’s also smart to consider both exposed and shaded areas for your friends and family to sit based on their comfort levels.

Get dietary requirements and requests in early.

There is nothing more stressful than getting a last-minute request you can’t cater to or when someone mentions an allergy in passing. Keep people comfortable and protect your own peace of mind by asking for all of this up front. This will help you then design a menu, plan out drinks, or determine what’s worth purchasing.

Consider timing and temperature.

No one ever sets out to host a gathering without considering the forecast, but we can’t control what ends up happening. There are ways to feel extra prepared, though! Have an umbrella to keep hot sun rays out. Consider an awning or a porch space you can move into if a drizzle starts or a breeze picks up. Have movable heaters and soft throw blankets in a basket that guests can gravitate towards if the temperature dips. You may want a fire pit going if it’s an evening get-together. Consider the possibilities and you won’t feel caught out in most cases!

Choose a theme and opt for simple.

A central theme can be helpful so you don’t buy too much food or drinks or struggle to figure out what to prepare. It’s also great if guests ask what to bring, and you can share the theme with them for inspiration. This is also a guiding light for designing your outdoor space and tablescape and determining what plates and items to use. I also recommend selecting a simple menu.

Bring food and drinks out last.

This might seem like a no-brainer, but oftentimes, in order to prepare and feel ready before people arrive, it can be tempting to set everything out in advance. This unfortunately doesn’t work as well outdoors. Inside, you have control over the indoor temperature, ovens, hot plates, and a fridge to keep everything fresh. Outside, the elements, bugs, and fluctuating temperatures make this difficult. I recommend assigning someone to help you bring everything out a few minutes prior, or even better, task your family with carrying out the dishes for you when it’s time to eat!

Build in time for you to enjoy your event.

So often as the host, you spend all your time preparing, serving, cleaning, and running around! While that is part of hosting, I think it’s extremely important that you get a chance to enjoy your efforts and the company around you. Life is too short not to have special moments with friends and family; the dishes can wait! If you feel overwhelmed, don’t go it alone. Delegate tasks to your partner, kids, or friends. People often want to help (but might need a little direction)!

Part of feeling good about hosting outdoors comes down to the items you have. While it’s perfectly possible to grab the paper plates and call it good, having essentials that make you happy and make entertaining easier are worth the investment. It makes each occasion feel special, even if it’s a casual coffee date or a laidback potluck.

Shop some of my favorite outdoor dining items below, then keep scrolling to discover all you need for hosting outdoors, plus categorized essentials!

Let’s start with the foundations. You can’t host without tables and chairs or areas for you and your guests to chat, share food, and unwind. If you’re on a budget for upgrading your patio, deck, or porch, I recommend just a few basics. Consider a dining table and chairs (or at least a bistro table and chairs), then two more comfortable chairs or loungers for sitting. If you have a bigger budget, I’d consider an outdoor couch, a large dining table and chairs, and several options for seating, whether that’s sun chairs, loungers, big cushy chairs, poufs, or floor cushions.

Building out from that, consider side tables and ottomans that double as storage. Benches are also handy, especially those with hidden compartments. Umbrellas or shades are another staple, in my opinion, as this allows guests to choose between sun and cover. Lastly, think about rolling carts or outdoor consoles that make it easier to hold food or support you if you’re grilling or cooking outdoors.

Yes, arguably, your outdoor furniture is the most important part of outdoor entertaining. However, I will say that nothing brings magic to outdoor gatherings like the plates, serverware, glassware, and other tablescape touches. Aesthetically, these details are responsible for carrying the theme and bringing an instant infusion of color and texture to your table without requiring immense effort. Functionally? They provide so much, of course!

Outside of plates, bowls, silverware, and glassware, think about other useful pieces that make hosting and eating outside simpler. Placemats and tablecloths keep furniture clean while giving your table style. Pitchers, serving platters and bowls, and drink dispensers offer ways of beautifully plating your food and serving drinks. Citronella candles keep pests away and add an ambient glow. Don’t forget washable (but pretty) napkins either!

Decor is the cherry on top of a lovely outdoor entertaining set-up. Once you have furniture in place and everything needed for serving and making guests comfortable, decor adds those details that make your outdoor spaces feel just as inviting as your interiors. Though some people might see these as “extras,” I see them as a vital part of your outdoor spaces and an extension of your home. I also think spending a little time sourcing outdoor decor and putting part of your budget towards it is worth it. These pieces will last you for years, and they’re easy to rearrange, move around, and build upon.

As far as my favorite outdoor decor goes, I think there are three great categories to focus on first: Textiles, lighting, and plants. Soft weatherproof furnishings like rugs, pillows, cushions, and blankets boost your guests’ comfort when sitting, standing, and walking around. They also add color and dimension to couches, chairs, and tables. Lighting is essential, too, not only to see when the evening settles around you but to really set the tone. Consider string or fairy lights, lanterns, solar orbs, and candles. Lastly, plants are a must. They make you feel like you’re truly within nature, even if you’re sitting up high on a deck. They too add color and texture, and there are so many planters for all design tastes.

The Best Finds for Creating a Timeless Coastal Patio on a Budget

Spring and summer are the seasons of outdoor living, and there is no more magical feeling than your first afternoon soaking up rays or that first sunset-drenched evening sharing a meal with loved ones. This week, I wanted to focus on creating stylish patio ideas on a budget, especially for those of you who love coastal aesthetics like I do!

While we’ve covered how to refresh your home for spring, this turns the attention to our outdoor spaces. Sometimes it feels like you have to choose between having stylish decor and what your budget allows, but these patio ideas on a budget make it possible to have both. Your outdoor spaces are simply an extension of your indoor rooms, and it’s always lovely to have a patio, deck, or porch that reflects this.

I’ve curated a handful of ideas and the decor items needed to create these looks, whether you’re refreshing your patio or another corner within your outdoor space. These ideas are proof that you can easily freshen up these areas without overspending, as they’re so important for fully enjoying this time of year! Enjoy the process and feel free to share how you’re styling your patio this season.

I’ll start by saying, I know that every budget is different. What one person considers “budget-friendly” may not align with someone else. That’s why I’ve tried to choose a wide selection of furniture and decor items that have a variety of prices. Furniture, of course, tends to be more expensive than decor items, but places like Wayfair, Amazon, and Walmart, for instance, often have options that are both beautiful and good for your budget.

I also think that you can easily get away with a simple layout that uses a few intentional pieces. A dining set with a beautiful rug or a two-piece chair set and an umbrella can be just as beautiful as a patio that’s styled with tons of decor.

Your resourcefulness will also come in handy for decorating a patio on a budget. See if you have interior decor items that can double as outdoor decor, or host a DIY craft night with friends to upcycle items or create your own decor. There are so many ways to upgrade your patio that cost less. Continue reading for options that I’ve broken down by category, from furniture to decor to planters.

If you’re searching for the most important patio furniture pieces, a dining set and comfortable chairs are essentials in my eyes. This gives you a place to entertain and share meals, as well as a spot to relax and spend time lounging.

When you’re thinking of your budget, you can also opt for multipurpose furniture. For instance, a conversation set with a table and chairs may be all you need for a smaller patio or balcony, which doubles as a place to have coffee and chat as well as a place to have dinner outside. You can also opt for tables with built-in storage or chairs that convert from upright to laid-back.

One of the easiest ways to bring style and personality to your patio on a budget is through plants and planters. Although planters can be pricey, there are many options for under $50 and under $25 that allow you to bring flowers, shrubs, and even plants that offer a little shade to your outdoor spaces.

Another consideration is choosing faux plants. I have found so many versions that look surprisingly realistic but still bring a pop of color or a wash of green to your coastal patio. These are much easier to care for and are often more affordable than their real counterparts.

The small details are one of my favorite ways to personalize an outdoor area. These bring color, texture, and dimension to your patio without costing as much as larger pieces of furniture. There are a few ways you can do this. First, think about how you usually use your patio. Is it for coffee dates with friends, family dinners, a base for lawn games, or an area to unwind?

Once you know this, you can shop accordingly to curate a beautiful patio. I love investing in a great outdoor dining set of plates. A pitcher, glasses, or coffee mugs are also lovely. Think about vases, candles, table centerpieces, or even lights you can place around the place. Cushions can add more comfort to your seats, and think about ottomans or decorative stools with coolers built in for more functionality.

Everything from pillow covers to outdoor rugs makes it so easy to add color, texture, and style to your patio without draining your entire budget. I think these are some of the best ways to make this area feel warm and welcoming, too. Without them, a patio can come across as a little sterile, as opposed to another “room” you want to spend time in.

I like to find outdoor pillow covers that are pretty but easy to spot clean or are capable of being thrown in the washing machine. The same goes for throw blankets and outdoor rugs. They’re prone to getting dirtier than the ones inside, so I think it’s worth choosing ones that won’t give you more work, especially if spills or bad weather happen.

Decide what you’ll invest in.

First, I think it’s helpful to determine what you’re happy investing a little more money into (if anything). Sometimes that means setting a larger chunk of your budget aside for a new outdoor couch or dining table. Or maybe you’re happy to opt for lower-budget furniture and instead have a bigger budget for decor and outdoor entertaining essentials. It’s fully up to you! Consider what activities you enjoy most outside, what you would use the most, and what’s your number-one priority.

Do some browsing first.

I know it can be tempting to automatically buy the first thing you spot that you love. Things go out of stock quickly these days, but there is sometimes value in waiting and price checking. Oftentimes, stores restock popular products, and in many cases, you’ll find better deals during the summer sales if you can wait. However, if you really need something or love something you find and the price works with your budget, I’ll always say go for it!

Figure out what’s worth refreshing and what’s worth replacing.

It’s easy to get wrapped up in feeling like you need all-new-everything when summer rolls around. I’ve been there too! But if you take a breath and a step back, you might find that some of your furniture items just need a nice, deep clean or a fresh coat of paint.

Shop for the future.

Who doesn’t love a good trend? They make styling your home so much fun! That being said, when it comes to furniture and decor you’ll want to use for many seasons in a row, I recommend seeking out timeless pieces with more longevity. This is especially true for big furniture items like sofas, dining sets, and lounge chairs. However, feel free to have fun with smaller objects like vases, planters, and throw pillow covers, which don’t have to cost a fortune and are easy to swap if you get tired of them.

A Curated List of Console Table Styling Ideas for Coastal-Inspired Homes

Of all the lovely surfaces in your home, I think one of the most impactful stylistically is the console table. It’s an excellent place for decor and an easy way to infuse any room with more of your style. Console tables add functionality, they cover up awkward blank spaces, and they imbue a room with more of the aesthetic you love.

If you have already read my guide on how to style a console table, and are aware of the main components involved in making one look beautiful, I want to provide you with some more inspiration for making these tables shine in your home. Whether you have one in your entryway, living room, dining room, bedroom, or another nook, I hope that the following options will provide you with plenty of ways of decorating each one.

There are many approaches you can take to styling a console table. Some of my favorite ideas focus on using different kinds of symmetry, layering, or specific color palettes. I recommend looking around on Instagram and Pinterest for inspiration, and also looking at your own home for ideas. What does your space already look like? What kinds of items would add to this aesthetic (rather than dampen it or take away from it)? Then, you can start looking for decor and small objects to dress it up to your liking.

Remember that less is more. Start with a clean slate, then slowly build up. No matter what theme or look you decide on, it’s better to take your time curating a gorgeous display; otherwise, your console table can feel a little busy or cluttered.

My last piece of advice before diving in is to have fun with it! At the end of the day, your console table decor should reflect you and your personal style. No matter what’s trending or in at the moment, the most important detail is that you love what you see and you feel that it reflects your design tastes.

I’m also going to put some console table options below that I love in case you’re looking to replace an old one or are in the market for a new one for a different room in your home.

Regardless of your personal style, I think symmetry is one of the best ways to create a cohesive and beautiful console table. Although it doesn’t have to have perfect equilibrium, each side of your table should be relatively even compared to the other. This kind of visual weighting will look nicer to the eye. This doesn’t mean you have to have matchy-matchy decor either, just pieces that complement one another in size.

I like to do this by having a vase on one end and a lamp of a similar shape and size on the other. Abide by the rule of three for things in between. This means styling decor in clusters of three, which provides another form of balance. Don’t forget to consider the bottom half of your console table, either! If there are shelves or a blank space beneath, apply the same principles.

A layered console table still has the balance and symmetry like the previous console table styling idea, but this one is a little more subtle in that regard. Instead, a layered surface has various dimensions, different heights and textures, and looks slightly more natural. Both are wonderful, but each gives off its own vibe.

For this specific style, I recommend clustering decor, but look for options in various colors, finishes, and shapes that, although different, still feel cohesive when placed together. As an example similar to above, try to find ceramic and stone finishes that will nicely contrast against reflective surfaces (like shell or a mirror) and softer textures like bouclé.

Console tables can also be simple. This kind of styling is perfect for interior minimalists and coastal homes that you want to feel fresh, breezy, and clean. More specifically, when I’m opting for a streamlined look like this, I enjoy using greenery because that helps the entire layout feel less sterile. Sometimes minimalism can feel a little bare or industrial, and to avoid that, nothing helps better than plants (real or faux.

Add one in a chic planter or add a spray of fresh flowers. Though the decor doesn’t have to be literal plants either. Consider moss balls, artwork inspired by nature, wreaths, or other natural elements like stones, crystals, or shells. Another way to bring warmth into a minimal setup is by using warmer woods, which also touches on this natural theme.

You can also design a console table around the color palette in your home. For coastal-inspired interiors, this almost always involves blue and navy, and neutral colors, such as white, gray, and beige. Every space is different (some people might love green in their coastal home or black!), but I suggest choosing two main colors and one or two secondary colors.

For mine, I selected blue and white to dress up a console table in a whitewashed wood material. Then I added a few touches of brown. If you have a specific scheme to work with, it’s so much easier to source decor and create a sense of cohesion. Use bowls, book stacks, vases, and decorative beads to make it stand out.

This is a useful idea for places like your entryway or bedroom, when a mirror might be a focal point. This reflective surface is a perfect point of reference that you can then decorate around. Using elements of the symmetrical console table and plant-infused ideas, you can create a table that feels creative and intentionally styled.

When a mirror is involved, I try to avoid bringing in too many competing textures or finishes. Consider baskets and woven textures, which bring flair but won’t try to steal attention like a big metallic vase or shiny bowl would. Therefore, keep statement pieces limited (like a small blue vase or a large lamp, but in a neutral tone). Don’t forget about the lighting either. If it’s in an area with great natural light, that’s wonderful, but a table lamp or task light can be helpful for last-minute outfit checks when it’s dark or gray.

Spring Porch Decor Ideas for Creating a Lovely Outdoor Space

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you.

After blankets of snow this winter, I’m craving the warmer, lighter days of spring. Living on the Cape, spring often arrives fashionably late, and while it’s slowly starting to emerge, I figured there was no better time to discuss spring porch decor.

Each year, I give my porch and patio a little spring refresh, and I wanted to share how I approach decorating these spaces, recommending stylish pieces and helpful tips for doing the same around the outside of your own home. There is something so satisfying about bringing a space back to life after a long winter slumber, through bright colors, plants, and soft textures.

Although I’m honing in on spring porch decor, this advice translates so beautifully to any outdoor space, whether it’s a petite balcony, sun-soaked patio, or a deck tucked away behind your house. The goal is to create livable areas that look like an extension of the coastal-inspired interiors you adore and that feel like a welcoming place to spend time as the weather gets nicer.

For this guide, I’ve organized everything by category. Each person’s style and needs are different. You might be searching for the perfect accent piece or are ready for a full furniture upgrade. Either way, this is written just for you. Enjoy the creation process, and I hope you can make the most of your newly refreshed outdoor space this season.

Coastal color palettes, blooming flowers, and timeless elements are all things that play a part in my spring porch decor plan. I begin with the base or foundation of my porch, which involves refreshing the furniture and positioning it in ways that are inviting, whether that’s chatting with friends and family or spending a morning drinking coffee solo.

I also review if we’re missing any pieces or need to replace furniture. I think having several seating options is key, and our porch features a swing seat, two comfortable, cushioned chairs, and a statement chair.

Once you have your furniture in place, you can focus on the smaller details. And while they might be smaller, I don’t underestimate just how much they bring to a porch! Planters, lighting, pillows, rugs, and decorative objects are the glue that holds a thoughtfully designed porch together.

When you’re putting together spring porch decor, I recommend choosing picks that bring you joy. You’ll have your coastal style at the forefront of your mind, but if you find a plant or a doormat that’s not necessarily the same aesthetic, don’t worry too much. Spring is a season of vibrancy, brightness, and color. I love adding a splash of pink or purple in my planters, or if you find a floral print doormat, go for it! The most important thing is that it lights you up when you’re walking up to the front door or spending time on your porch.

With a plan in mind, you can start shopping for beautiful spring porch decor that will wholeheartedly transform this space.

Furniture is the most important part of putting together a pretty spring porch. These pieces are the foundation of a relaxing space, as they outline the actual space and bring those welcoming vibes that make you want to stay another hour or two! These are also usually the biggest investments, so you want to choose wisely.

Functionality and quality are important (especially with furniture that’s sitting outside), as well as the style component. You want to decide on pieces that you won’t get bored with after a season or two. Timeless with a coastal touch is always my go-to, and I often find furniture that matches this brief on Wayfair, Amazon, Serena & Lily, and Crate & Barrel. Consider weatherproof cushions that are plush but capable of handling rain, sun, dust, and salty air.

Nothing evokes the feeling of spring quite like fresh flowers and plants—along with a few stylish planters to house them in! These are my go-to decorative items for framing a door and giving it more dimension. Plants also make easy fillers for those awkward empty corners or sitting areas that feel a little bit bare. The volume, color, and texture they bring into an area make them a must for any spring porch decor ideas you have.

As a caveat, I will say that real flowers and arrangements are undeniably gorgeous, but you can get the same effect from faux plants. I’ve found so many options these days that look impressively realistic, from the petals to the ways the leaves move around. The best part is, you don’t have to water them or worry if inclement weather is on its way!

One of my favorite ways of warming up a porch and entry area is with soft textures. Doormats and rugs do this so effortlessly, though they’re often a second thought in an outdoor space. A weather-resistant rug keeps the elements at bay and helps designate different zones. You can define a conversation area, a dining place, a coffee corner, and so much more simply with a rug.

Doormats do the same and welcome everyone who steps over the threshold. For spring, I like to add an extra layer under my coir version. It brightens the entire look and signals that the new season is here. I’m appreciative of how far both welcome mats and outdoor rugs have come. There are so many designs, patterns, and colors that fit in so nicely outside of a coastal home.

Outdoor decor encompasses all those finishing touches that bring a space together and make it feel beautiful and intentionally designed. It’s these little bits that elevate an average outdoor area, turning it into a place that’s received just as much time, energy, and care as your indoor rooms. Let your creativity take over, and don’t be afraid to invest in decor for these “rooms” that don’t necessarily have four walls. These pieces are often more reliable, less breakable, and easier to wipe down.

There are so many routes to take. You can keep your spring porch decor simple and opt for a cute pillow or two on your chairs. You can bring in elements that are centered on your decor theme, such as signs or objects with a coastal twist, or those with a subtle holiday theme, like Easter. Wreaths and garlands also bring warmth to your porch, as do strands of lights (which we’ll get to soon). It doesn’t have to be a lot of decor or complex, just a few easy pieces that complete the look.

Lastly, don’t forget the lighting! This also often falls to the wayside, but it’s one of the most impactful details you can add to your porch (and really, all of your outdoor spaces). I place lighting into two categories: permanent and temporary. The former includes those fixtures and sconces that are installed for good and will remain on your porch through all seasons. These should be timeless and fit into the overall look of your home, whether that’s a beach house, modern coastal escape, or something else completely.

Then, in the latter group, you have light features that can be swapped, moved around, and changed depending on the time of year. This is where lanterns, fairy lights, glowing spheres, and battery-operated (or unpluggable) lights sit. Both groups are important, but temporary lighting is best when it comes to decorating for a season like spring. I love incorporating a collection of lanterns in varying heights. It’s a gorgeous way to bring layers to your porch and cast a gentle glow.

Your porch has so much potential. With a few fresh decor items and the right styling techniques, you can turn it into a springtime oasis. Here are a handful of other tips to have in mind when you’re designing an outdoor space.

Consider the purpose.

Before decorating, it’s a good idea to think about the purpose you’d like your porch to serve. You can think about this for any outdoor space. For your porch specifically, consider what you or your family find most important. Is it a space to talk and sip coffee? A play area? A place to unwind? An entertainment space? Once you’ve determined this, you can shop for the right furniture and decor to match.

Invest in quality.

I’m all for finding a bargain or amazing sale item, but there are some instances where investing in high-quality decor and furniture is a better choice, as they’ll last you longer. This is definitely the case for pieces like tables, chairs, rugs, and planters, which you’ll want to have for years to come.

Embrace “natural” decor.

Spring is the season of new growth and rebirth in the natural world, and it’s always nice to have your decor reflect that. Plants and flowers are the best way of bringing this out. If your home has a coastal aesthetic, look for items around your property and the surrounding area. Seashells, branches, and driftwood are also lovely. These nature-inspired pieces feel fitting and look beautiful.

Start restrained, then build up.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of buying a bunch of furniture sets and new decor for your porch, only to discover that it all feels cluttered and overwhelming once it’s in place. I recommend starting small, with one or two items. See how those feel and build your porch up from there. You might find you prefer a minimalist set-up or want it to look closer to an outdoor living room.

Double-check materials and fabrics.

Whether you live by the coast or in a city, it’s always important to ensure your outdoor furniture and decor truly are capable of sitting outside. Sometimes brands will sell items as “weatherproof” or under the outdoor label, but the moment it rains or gets sunny and hot, your items crumble under the pressure of the elements. Look for waterproof, UV-resistant, and washable fabrics and materials like glass, polyester, stainless steel, aluminum, and polyethylene plastics. Some woods that are treated are also suitable for being outside.

spring bedding ideas

Spring is just around the corner, and your bedroom is the perfect starting point when it comes to shifting your home decor towards a look that reflects elements of the season. From gentle florals to lighter color palettes that reflect those blooming around us right now, there are so many ways you can embrace this season in your room. In light of the new season, I’ve curated a list of spring bedding ideas that will feel refreshing, but still fit neatly within your serene coastal escape.

In general, bedrooms should gently balance consistency with room for movement and change. The majority of items in your room should be foundational pieces that you’ll love and use for years, and a smaller selection should be simple enough to move around and change out as your tastes shift and the seasons come and go. Bedding is one of the best ways to do this. It doesn’t require a complicated renovation or a total change of color palette, yet it still has an enormous impact on the feel of your sleeping space.

spring bedding

I think it’s possible to have both a room that reflects the beauty of each season but feels assured in its overarching theme. If you’re reading this, you likely have similar tastes to me. You love a coastal-inspired home, and I’m so excited to show you how to continue this theme while celebrating spring—all through bedding.

Before we immerse ourselves in spring bedding ideas, I wanted to share some bedding staples that I always have on hand. I rotate these throughout the year, and knowing they’re in my linen closet makes it so easy to swap them when a season, holiday, or general weekly refresh calls for it.

If you’re writing your own list, I like to have several sheet sets on hand, a few duvet cover options (at least two so you always have one ready when you do laundry), a selection of throw pillows or throw pillow covers you can change out, a throw blanket or two, and a few sizes of pillows, including lumbar, round, square, and those for sleeping. Outside of bedding, you can gather plenty of other touches to tie together a coastal bedroom. I’ve curated a list of furniture and bedroom decor below that are perfect for exactly this.

As for where to source your bedding, these are my favorite places that consistently deliver on quality bedding that’s not only super comfortable, but extremely stylish too:

  • Quince: I source so much bedding and a variety of home goods from Quince! Pillows, duvets, duvet covers, sheets, blankets, and quilts are all available at amazing prices for a very high standard of quality.
  • Boll & Branch: If you’re ready to invest in high-quality bedding, bed frames, and other bedroom accessories, this brand is the place to go first. I’m in love with so many of its collections.
  • Amazon: You’d be so surprised at the incredible bedding you can find on Amazon. I find duvet covers, pillows, quilts, and more here—all of which look like they’re from a high-end brand!
  • Pottery Barn: This is a solid choice for basic bedding staples, like sheet sets, as well as standout throw pillows.
  • McGee & Co.: I love finding decorative bits here. The brand has pretty objects for your bedside table, beautiful throw blankets, and plenty of pretty throw pillow covers too.

You might be wondering what separates your typical spring bedding from spring bedding that feels at home in a coastal bedroom. It’s really however you interpret this look, but I find that a coastal home leans more on lighter color palettes, natural textures, and subtler patterns. While they can feel spring-inspired (featuring florals or colors that evoke this season, for instance), bedding should also feel cohesive with the coastal elements in your room that are more permanent, such as your bed frame, bedside tables, artwork, and other characteristic features.

This doesn’t mean everything has to look beachy or always play by the coastal cottage design playbook—definitely not! It’s perfectly doable to balance both in your room, and the following five spring bedding ideas will show you exactly how to achieve this equilibrium.

Subtle Floral Bedding

Floral prints are synonymous with spring, and I’ve seen some that are beautifully rendered in the form of bedding. These are much more subtle and stylish than the ditzy prints from years ago. Block printed options, abstract patterns, and larger blooms lend more subtle texture, especially when they’re in calmer colors, like sage, mist, beige, grey, and white.

These hues also pair flawlessly with the woven textures and wooden features often found in a coastal bedroom. Altogether, you’re left with a room that feels dimensional and layered, but still completely cohesive. I think a piece of artwork above the bed that complements the bedding can also enliven a space.

Green Gingham Bedding

Gingham is such a happy pattern and feels right at home in a bedroom during spring or summer. One of my favorite spring bedding ideas is incorporating this pattern in green. A verdant palette works surprisingly well in a coastal bedroom, especially contrasted against those aforementioned washed woods and woven textures.

Paired with cream or white, this could easily be a look you enjoy for months. While green might not sound like the most coastal color, it’s one of the most flexible shades out there. Darker moss tones or lighter sage are both welcome in your serene escape. There is something earthy and grounded about green that you can’t get from many other colors.

Gentle Striped Bedding

Stripes are undeniably nautical, so they’ll always look lovely in a coastal-themed room! If you usually hesitate when it comes to bringing patterns into your home, I recommend selecting stripes (or any other print) in a lighter color, such as gray or misty blue. This way, it won’t feel distracting or overwhelm the room. When you layer it with other light hues and natural finishes, it can look just as serene as plain bedding.

Stripes also give energy and visual movement to your bed. They draw the eye in, then direct it around the room. They’re a wonderful option if you find that your room is feeling a little flat or monochromatic. Stripes are a statement, but one that even the biggest minimalism fans can get on board with.

Blue Gingham Bedding

Gingham is such a gorgeous spring pattern that it gets double recognition! As a whole, blue gingham is relatively seasonless. It can serve as your bedspread spring, winter, summer, or fall. Because of the light hue and classic pattern, it’ll blend well into your coastal surroundings. I like mixing and matching a variety of pillows with this look, from those in the exact same pattern to floral prints to a pop of dark navy.

A blue hue on your bed also draws out the warmth of your surrounding furniture. Up against the woven bench and wood bedside table in our master bedroom, our blue gingham bedding makes these other pieces feel more vibrant, which is exactly the vibe you want for spring.

Earthy Neutral Bedding

For bedding that leans more natural but doesn’t feel dark or wintery, consider a combination of light blues, greens, and neutrals. This blend is a timeless option for year-round use, but because of the touches of green, it feels refreshing and fitting for a springtime bedroom!

Choosing throw pillows in a natural texture or with floral print also creates a nature-inspired escape. I love pairing this slightly rustic but elegant bedding with a few plants in my bedroom. Whether you choose faux or real, leaves, flowers, and branches all look beautiful when paired with a bedspread that reminds you of spring’s most gorgeous offerings.

Regardless of your design style or favorite bedding preferences, these tips will help you create a bed and bedroom that align well with this cheerful season.

Look outside for inspiration.

What do you see when you peek out the window? This can help inspire how you decorate indoors. This conversation between the outside world and your bedroom design can lead to a space that feels inspired by your surroundings, and therefore calming and serene. This could look like soft layers, a color palette that reflects the one outside, and materials that are natural, such as wood, stone, and cotton.

Consider temperature and weather.

It may be getting warmer, but that doesn’t mean winter’s icy grasp won’t appear every now and then! I recommend working with layers on your bed. If you’re a warm sleeper, opt for breathable cotton or linen sheets and duvets, but have quilts, coverlets, and throw blankets at the ready so you can stay comfortable no matter what the season brings.

Update the surrounding decor.

Once your bed gets a refresh, it’s time to look at the decor and furniture around it. While you probably have a few elements that stay in your room year-round, spring is a great time to move away from the heavy textures, plants, art, and decorative objects that remind you of winter. Replace evergreens with fresh blooms, branches, and botanicals. Swap thick, wool throws and pillows for lighter alternatives. Trade out holiday-inspired pieces, vases, or art for neutral-colored items and spring-inspired designs.

Invest in quality and timeless options.

While it’s easy to buy whatever bedding is cheapest or most easily available, I recommend spending a little more time while shopping around. Be intentional with your purchases and invest in a few quality pieces that will make your sleep experience exponentially better. This could be a duvet you know you’ll use for two or three seasons out of the year, a mattress that makes sleeping much more comfortable, or a sheet set that feels great to sleep on and matches with a variety of your blankets and pillows—not just your spring bedding.

Enjoy the process!

Creating a coastal inspired home is all about layering soft textures, neutral tones, and natural elements that make a space feel calm and welcoming. The good news is that achieving that elevated, designer look does not always require high end price tags. Some of my favorite pieces that bring warmth and texture into my home are actually Amazon finds that blend beautifully with a refined coastal style.

In our living room, a few carefully chosen details help create that relaxed yet elevated coastal feel. The plush neutral rug anchors the entire space and adds softness, making the room feel warm and inviting. I love using textured rugs like this to ground a seating area while still keeping the palette light.

Throw pillows are another easy way to layer interest without overwhelming the room. Mixing subtle patterns, cozy fabrics, and neutral tones helps the sofas feel styled and collected while still maintaining that calm coastal aesthetic. To finish the look, I added faux florals to the coffee table, which bring in a natural element and soften the space. High quality faux stems are one of my favorite design tricks because they add life to a room and look beautiful year round without any upkeep.

Thoughtful Entryway Details That Feel Designer

The entryway and surrounding living room spaces are another place where a few thoughtful pieces can make a home feel warm and inviting. I love incorporating textures that feel elevated but still relaxed, like the boucle storage ottomans tucked under the console table. They add softness and visual interest while also providing extra seating or storage when needed. For a fresh seasonal touch, I styled the table with faux cosmos flowers, which bring a light and airy feel that is perfect for spring.

Across the room, woven textures help tie the space together. The wicker basket planter adds a natural coastal element while giving greenery a beautiful place to live, and the woven rug continues the soft texture seen throughout the living room. Pieces like these are some of my favorite Amazon finds because they add warmth and designer style while still feeling approachable and easy to live with.

Hallway Favorites

This buffet storage cabinet from Amazon is another staple in our coastal decor, and I love topping it with neutral lamps, an arched mirror, and vases that add height and interest.

Elevated Coastal Kitchen and Dining Details

In the dining area, I love adding simple touches that make the space feel fresh and welcoming. The faux peonies on the table bring in a soft pop of life and are such an easy way to make the room feel styled for the season without any upkeep.

In the kitchen, the runner rug adds warmth and texture along the island while helping the space feel a little more cozy. I also love layering in simple decor like small plants, cutting boards, and neutral accessories to give the kitchen that relaxed, lived in coastal feel while still keeping it functional for everyday life.

Simple Countertop Styling That Feels Collected

One of my favorite ways to make a kitchen feel warm and lived in is by adding a few thoughtful styling pieces to the countertops. I love using items that are both beautiful and practical, like the oil and vinegar dispensers that sit neatly on a small wood tray. Pairing them with the floral pitcher vase filled with silk mums adds a soft seasonal touch while still keeping everything functional.

On the other side of the kitchen, a small styled vignette helps the space feel layered and cozy. Faux tulips in a neutral stone vase bring in a fresh look that works beautifully year round, while linen books add a subtle texture that makes the styling feel a little more collected and intentional. Little details like these are an easy way to give your kitchen that elevated coastal feel without cluttering the space.

Soft Layers in the Bedroom

In the bedroom, I love keeping the palette calm and layered so the space feels relaxing and cozy. The soft blue quilt adds a beautiful touch of color while still staying within that relaxed coastal palette. It is lightweight, comfortable, and an easy way to bring subtle contrast to neutral bedding.

On the nightstand, the silk mums add a simple decorative moment that helps the space feel finished. I love using faux florals in bedrooms because they bring a little life and softness to the room without requiring any maintenance, making them perfect for everyday styling.

Easy Outdoor Coastal Styling

Outdoor spaces are another great place to add simple pieces that make everything feel finished and inviting. These neutral planters are one of my favorite Amazon finds because they have a clean, modern look that works beautifully with almost any outdoor style.

The artificial lavender adds a soft pop of color and greenery without any maintenance, which makes it perfect for patios and porches. Paired with the textured planters, it creates a relaxed outdoor moment that feels fresh, welcoming, and perfectly coastal.

Coastal Living Room Spring Refresh with Natural Textures and Greenery

A simple way to create a coastal spring refresh in your living room is by layering organic textures and fresh greenery. The woven coffee table and natural fiber rug add warmth while keeping the space light and neutral. An oversized ceramic vase filled with airy branches brings movement and softness, creating an effortless coastal spring decor moment.

A tall indoor tree in a woven basket brightens the corner and enhances the natural light, while linen drapery and neutral pillows maintain that calm, Cape Cod inspired feel. When updating your living space for spring, focus on rattan, seagrass, wood, ceramic, and greenery to keep your coastal home feeling fresh, collected, and timeless.

Light and Airy Coastal Kitchen and Dining Room Spring Decor

A spring home refresh in the kitchen and dining area can be as simple as soft florals and warm natural textures. Woven cane dining chairs, a light wood pedestal table, and a neutral pendant create an airy coastal foundation that feels both classic and relaxed. A ceramic vase filled with fresh white blooms becomes an effortless focal point, adding brightness without overwhelming the room.

In the kitchen, small styling moments make a meaningful impact. A textured ceramic pitcher with soft blush florals, stacked cookbooks, and crisp white subway tile keep the look clean and refined. For coastal spring decor in the heart of the home, lean into light wood tones, woven accents, simple ceramics, and seasonal florals.

Serene Coastal Spring Bedroom Ideas with Soft Layers

A spring bedroom refresh is all about soft layers and calming coastal tones. Light gingham bedding, subtle botanical pillows, and crisp white linens create an airy foundation that feels fresh and inviting. A textured knit throw in a soft blue adds just enough coastal color while keeping the overall palette neutral and serene.

Natural wood furniture, woven accents, and simple ceramic lamps reinforce that timeless Cape Cod inspired style. A neutral landscape above the bed and fresh greenery on the dresser bring in organic movement without overwhelming the space. For a coastal spring bedroom update, focus on lightweight bedding, layered neutrals, soft blues, and natural textures to create a room that feels relaxed and refined.

Coastal Spring Hallway Decor and Styled Vignettes

Do not overlook hallways during your spring home refresh. Styled vignettes can bring just as much charm and coastal character as larger rooms. A light wood cabinet with woven cane detailing adds warmth and texture, while layered greenery in a ceramic vase keeps the look organic and seasonal.

In smaller spaces, a simple console styled with a stone vessel and soft white florals creates an understated coastal spring decor moment. Paired with neutral artwork and warm brass lighting, these hallway details feel collected and cohesive. Focus on natural wood tones, woven textures, greenery, and subtle florals to create welcoming transitions throughout your coastal inspired home.

A spring home refresh does not require dramatic change. It is about thoughtful updates that honor your home’s existing character while introducing lightness and seasonal beauty. By layering natural textures, incorporating fresh greenery, embracing soft coastal colors, and simplifying your styling, you create a home that feels calm, elevated, and ready for the season ahead.

Spring in a coastal inspired home should feel effortless, warm, and inviting. A few intentional swaps can transform each space, allowing your home to reflect the quiet beauty of the shoreline all season long.

Creating a Cape Cod inspired kitchen has been a slow and thoughtful process for me. Instead of changing everything at once, I have slowly layered in pieces that feel timeless, coastal, and easy to live with every day. This kitchen really started with a simple idea, keep things classic and calm. The clean cabinetry, warm wood floors, and airy lighting create a foundation that feels both modern and timeless. The pendant lights and woven barstools are pieces I never switch out because they anchor the space so well and give it that relaxed Cape Cod feel no matter the season.

Layering Warmth With Textiles and Greenery

One of my favorite ways to soften the kitchen is by adding a runner and a little bit of greenery. The Loloi Chris Loves Julia Louisa Collection runner in Lagoon and Ivory brings in just enough color while still feeling neutral and easy. Paired with small touches of greenery, the space instantly feels warmer and more lived in without losing that clean coastal look.

Natural Wood Accents and Everyday Kitchen Styling

I love bringing in natural wood accents to balance all of the whites. Serving boards, my knife block, and simple kitchen tools add warmth while still feeling functional. Some of my favorite Amazon finds, like the oil and vinegar dispensers, stay out on the counter because they are both practical and pretty, which is always my goal when styling this space.

Coffee Bar Styling With Soft Neutrals and Texture

The coffee bar is such a fun little area to style. I kept the palette simple with warm whites through the ceramic pitcher and vases, then layered in greenery and natural textures like wood and a woven basket. It keeps the space feeling calm and collected, but still cozy and inviting for everyday use.

More than anything, this kitchen has been about creating a space that evolves naturally over time. I mix classic coastal pieces with modern touches and update small details seasonally while keeping the core elements the same. It is a reminder that a timeless home does not happen overnight, it is built slowly by curating pieces you truly love.

Winter at home is all about creating spaces that feel calm, cozy, and functional, even with kids and pets in the mix. In our home, that means leaning into reliable home decor pieces that can truly stand up to everyday life while still feeling elevated and intentional. From hidden storage solutions that keep clutter tucked away to durable materials that hold up to little hands and paws, winter is the season I focus on layering warmth without sacrificing order. Thoughtful storage, soft neutral textures, and timeless decor make it easier to keep our home feeling peaceful, lived in, and beautifully organized all season long.

A Cozy Weeknight Recipe We Have Been Loving Lately

One of my favorite parts of winter at home is slowing down just enough to enjoy simple weeknight routines, especially an easy, cozy dinner that everyone actually loves. Lately, this chicken pesto pizza has been on repeat in our house. It comes together quickly, feels comforting, and is perfect for busy evenings when kids and pets are underfoot and the kitchen is truly lived in. Moments like this are exactly why I prioritize a home that works just as hard as we do. When your space supports real life, it becomes easier to enjoy these small moments, whether that is dinner around the stove or a quiet reset once the house finally settles for the night.

Living Room Finds That Stand Up to Kids and Pets

The living room is one of the hardest working spaces in our home, especially during the winter months when kids and pets seem to gravitate there all day long. One of my favorite solutions has been adding a simple couch cover that protects our sofa without taking away from the overall look. It has been a game changer for muddy paws, spills, and everyday lounging. I also cannot say enough about our rug, which has truly stood the test of time with years of high traffic and still looks beautiful. We love it so much that we have the same rug in three different rooms, which helps the house feel cohesive while proving that durable home finds can still feel timeless and welcoming.

Family Room Storage and Seating That Gets Used Every Day

The family room is where our home really comes to life, so it was important to choose pieces that balance storage, comfort, and durability. The distressed cane cabinet has been one of my favorite additions, offering hidden storage that keeps games, blankets, and everyday clutter tucked away while still adding warmth and texture to the space. Our Balboa swivel chair has also become a favorite spot for afternoon lounging and plenty of pet naps, and it has held up beautifully through it all. We continued the same rug here as well, which helps tie the spaces together and reinforces the idea that practical, hardworking pieces can still feel elevated.

A Calm, Functional Bedroom for Winter Nights

The bedroom is meant to feel calm and restorative, even in a home filled with kids and pets, which is why storage and practicality matter just as much here as they do in our shared spaces. The Sausalito eight drawer dresser and matching nightstands have been incredible for keeping everyday essentials organized and out of sight, helping the room feel peaceful rather than cluttered. We carried the same rug style into this space in a softer color to add warmth underfoot while still being durable enough for daily life. Washable bedding and removable throw pillow covers have also been a must, making it easy to keep everything fresh without sacrificing comfort or style.

Winter at home does not have to feel overwhelming or overly precious to be beautiful. By choosing thoughtful storage, durable materials, and cozy layers that support real life with kids and pets, it becomes easier to enjoy the season and the moments that come with it. A home that works well allows you to slow down, gather together, and truly settle in, which is what winter is all about.

A Calm & Cozy Winter Bedroom Reset

Christmas decor fills a space with nostalgic warmth through rich greens, plaid reds, and soft twinkle lights. A winter bedroom, however, shifts the energy. It softens everything with lighter tones, relaxed textures, and a slower, calmer feel that invites rest after the holidays.

Seeing this bedroom move from festive Christmas styling into a peaceful winter bedroom shows just how powerful a simple color and texture shift can be. The same foundation remains, but the mood transforms into something lighter, quieter, and more restful.

Classic Christmas Details in Our Room

This Christmas bedroom is layered with timeless holiday charm. Crisp white bedding is paired with a deep green quilt and red plaid accent pillows for a look that feels warm, traditional, and inviting without being overwhelming.

Natural greenery ties the entire look together. A simple wreath above the bed, fresh arrangements on the nightstands, and the soft glow of the Christmas tree add warmth and texture while keeping the room feeling calm and balanced.

Guest Room Styled for the Holidays

A guest winter bedroom should always feel cozy first. Soft neutral bedding creates a calming base, while olive green layers and subtle plaid accents bring in just enough holiday warmth without overpowering the room.

Simple greenery, soft blue lamps, ceramic houses, and the glow of a flocked Christmas tree make this guest bedroom feel peaceful and welcoming. It is festive in a quiet, thoughtful way that still allows the room to breathe.

Winter Bedroom Reset with Coastal Whites & Soft Blues

This is where the winter bedroom truly softens. Holiday greens and reds transition into crisp whites, pale blues, and warm wood tones that feel light, fresh, and calming while still remaining cozy.

Layered quilts, soft throws, simple ceramics, and minimal styling create a coastal-inspired winter bedroom that feels peaceful and collected. The space keeps its warmth, but now in a way that feels relaxed and perfectly suited for the slower pace of winter.
